To educate aspiring coaches about the needs and characteristics of student-athletes at different stages in their growth, development and learning.
To prepare new coaches in the important dimensions of ensuring proper nutrition and physical conditioning for the student-athlete, preventing injuries and overuse of skeletal and musculature elements, understanding how acquisition of new skills occur best, and learning how to prepare effective practice and game regimens.
To assist coaches in developing and understanding the Maine Principals' Association's structure and procedures governing high school interscholastic sports in Maine.
To provide coaches with an introduction to the psychosocial dimensions of student-athlete development and how sports contribute to growth in these domains.
To introduce coaches to organizational and planning skills as they prepare for a new season and a new team.
To provide coaches with important insights pertaining to their communication with players, parents, administrators, officials, community members, and the media.
To help coaches recognize and fulfill their role in contributing to the mission and vision of the school, and to the Maine Learning Results specifically.
To deepen coaches' understanding of how participation in sport can help student-athletes raise their personal aspirations for higher achievement and long-term goals.
